Yaz Birth Control Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis is a health concern for many people of a certain age. However, it has recently been uncovered that women taking Yasmin birth control are also at risk of getting pancreatitis and suffering from the effects this painful condition can cause.
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is the first part of the small intestine and plays an active role in the digestive system. Furthermore, the pancreas is also responsible for regulating the level of glucose in your body. When you have pancreatitis, your pancreas cannot perform its duty which can negatively impact your entire digestive system. Without proper diagnosis and treatment of pancreatitis, you may experience severe bleeding, infections and permanent damage to the tissue in the pancreas.
There are a number of theories surrounding why Yaz birth control causes pancreatitis in women. Many believe that the connection is due to the increased blood levels of triglyceride in Yasmin birth control. Other researchers believe that the estrogen used in Yasmin birth control is toxic to the pancreas in general. There are currently a number of studies that are looking at the Yaz pancreatitis connection to give us more answers. However, until then, women need to be aware that with Yaz birth control comes an increase in the chance of getting pancreatitis.
Essentially there are two different types of pancreatitis, both of which can be harmful to your health. Acute pancreatitis often occurs suddenly and can bring life threatening problems if the condition is ignored. Acute pancreatitis can usually be resolved with certain medical treatment. Chronic pancreatitis, on the other hand, does not heal or improve and can lead to permanent pancreas damage.
Be on the lookout for the following Yaz pancreatitis symptoms:
- pain in the upper abdomen. Pain can be gradual, sudden, severe, constant or mild
- swollen abdomen
- nausea and/or vomiting
- fever
- rapid heart beat
- weight loss
- oily stools and/or diarrhea
- pain when eating or drinking
If you are currently experiencing any of these symptoms and are taking Yasmin birth control, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Furthermore, if you have any problems with your kidneys or liver, it is important that you stop taking Yaz birth control. Pancreatitis can lead to kidney failure, gallstones and even a kidney transplant if left untreated.
If you or someone you love has experienced pancreatitis, it is important that you not only seek medical attention, but that you also contact a Yaz attorney about your legal rights. Treatment for pancreatitis can be expensive and stressful and may include ultrasounds, CT scans, kidney dialysis and/or MRCP. You may miss out on work and a regular income and be faced with emotional trauma, severe pain and expensive medical costs. However, you have a legal right to fight back.
