A majority of woman who have a used a form of birth control known as Nuvaring birth control, have later developed a blood clot. When a woman has developed this clot they later get prescribed a blood thinner like Lovenox or Coumadin. Coumadin can have a side effect of abnormal bleeding. For 3 to 6 months the woman takes their prescription blood thinner after the diagnosis of a DVT or pulmonary embolism.
Coumadin, also known as warfarin, is one of the most common anticoagulant. It works by helping decrease the amount of vitamin K within the body thusly reducing the chance of a blood clot. A blood clot poses a serious threat to any because it cuts off the circulation of blood to a certain part of the body. Coumadin doesn’t get rid of blood clots that have already formed but it does not allow current ones to grow larger or allow any new ones to grow at all. Clots can develop anywhere within the body. The most dangerous areas for a clot to be include the veins of the brain and upper extremities as well as superficial veins of extremities.
The prescription of Coumadin is usually issued if you have forming blood clots, otherwise known as venous thrombosis, or have been diagnosed with an illness that can form blood clots. Conditions that can drastically raise the risks of getting a blood clot include a recent heart attack, heart surgeries and a type of irregular heart beat. Some, but not all women, who have used a Nuva ring as a contraceptive, have developed a pulmonary embolism or DVT.
Different tests are performed on your blood pressure to help determine the doses in which you should be prescribed. The doses vary from 1 to 10mg and these rounded tablets are to be taken once a day whether they are taken with food or without food.
Coumadin, though a good drug that can save lives, also poses the chances of serious side effects that can cause abnormal and sometimes in a worst case scenario serious profuse bleeding. When taking Coumadin the user must pay attention to their stool and if it because tarry-appearing or black then they must seek medical attention right away. Easy bruising can occur anywhere on the body. Some foods can cross negatively with this drug; foods that contain a lot of vitamin K can interrupt the process of Coumadin and leave the patient with a high chance of having a stroke. Always talk to your body before taking this medication and be sure to give a complete list of the medications that you are currently taking and a complete health history of you and your family. Other side effects include irregular swelling of your face and limbs, chest pain and pressure, vomiting, nausea, fever, diarrhea, difficulty moving and tingling or numbness of the body.
