Ocella Side Effects

Ocella, the generic form of Yaz and Yasmin, is a fourth generation birth control which uses a combination of the progestin drospirenone  and ethinyl estradiol to help prevent women from getting pregnant.  It is also prescribed to help treat mild cases of acne and to aid with symptoms of  premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Ocella  is distributed and manufactured by Barr Pharmaceuticals.  Yaz/Yasmin and the generic form of the drug, Ocella are the most popular forms of  drospirenone based prescription birth control in the United States.

Just like Yasmin and Yaz, Ocella’s main components are ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone, which, when combined,  prevent  pregnancy by altering the lining of the uterus and the cervix. This  makes it difficult for the sperm to reach the eggs and for the fertilized eggs to attach to the uterus.

However, like Yasmin and Yaz, Ocella has been reported to be the cause of  serious side effects which could be fatal or cause permanent damage. Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are the only forms of oral birth control which contain drospirenone, which can increse potassium levels in the bloodstream.  This increase in potassium could lead to serious side effects  in women such as Pulmonary Emboli, Gallbladder Disease, Deep Vein Thrombosis, and sudden death.

Ocella is not recommended for women who have pre-existing kidney, liver, or adrenal diseases because they may be more susceptible to the increased levels of potassium in the bloodstream.  It is also not recommended for women who have  medical histories that  include, high blood pressure, prior strokes, prior heart attacks, depression,  unusual menstrual cycle or the vaginal bleeding, and certain types of cancers.

Women who become pregnant need to stop taking Ocella becasue Ocella and similar birth controls could cause  serious birth defects. Women who  use  Ocella should maintain a healthy lifestyle them to avoide suffering from the more serious effects of this drug. Alcohol and tobacco should completely be avoided when  taking Ocella, along with any type of prescription medications that would not be passed by the medical experts.

Ocella Lawsuits

There are many women who have not had any history of clots or gallbladder problems who have now experienced these since taking Ocella. You may be entitled to financial compensation through an Ocella lawsuit if you or someone you love has taken Ocella and suffered from a:

Yasmin Lawsuit Settlements

March 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Yasmin, another form of Yaz and Ocella, which contains the progestin drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, has been prescribed to  many women as a birth control solution. For some years now, this drug had been very heavily advertised by the manufacturers, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. Since FDA approval of this oral contraceptive in 2006, many women have reported experiencing some serious Yasmin side effects. There have been no Yasmin lawsuit settlements announced since the litigation is still ongoing.

Yasmin’s packaging mentions many varying side effects ranging from mild to severe. The most severe Yasmin side effects include Blood Clots, Pulmonary Embolism, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT),  and Gallbladder Disease.

Increased Risk Of Blood Clots

Yasmin could cause an increased risks of having blood clots. Its  unique combination of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol has been found to increase the risks of  abnormal internal blood clots.  Internal blood clots can cause significant health risks if they form a Deep Vein Thrombosis or travel to the lungs and cause a Pulmonary Embolism.

Yasmin Pulmonary Embolism and DVT

Blood clots which form in the deep veins are called DVTs. These types of clots often occur in the legs, but could also form in the arms, chest or pelvis. If the blood clot remains in these veins  it could partially or completely block the flow of blood. Symptoms of a Deep Vein Thrombosis are  pains, weakness, and swelling or a warming sensation in the legs.

Even though a DVT impairs the circulation, it  usually does not cause any life-threatening risks unless it  detaches and  travels through the blood stream to the lungs or heart. If this embolus reaches the pulmonary artery and becomes lodged in it, it could prevent  blood from getting to the lung tissues. This is called a pulmonary embolism, which is a serious Yasmin side effect. Pulmonary Emboli are dangerous as they can result in permanent lung damage or death.

Yasmin Gallbladder Disease and Gallstones

Research has shown that Yasmin birth control may affect the gallbladder in two ways. First, the pills may increase  levels of cholesterol in the body. Higher cholesterol content could affect the bile  stored in the gallbladder which could  result in gallstones.

Second,  Yasmin may reduce the gallbladder’s contractions. Since these contractions help push bile into the bile duct, without them, the bile would remain in the gallbladder. This may cause inflammation that is known as  acute acalculous gallbladder disease.

The common solution for gallbladder disease is surgical removal of the gallbladder, which results in some lifestyle changes and other additional side effects.

Yasmin Lawsuits

There are many women who have not had any history of clots or gallbladder problems who have now experienced these since taking Yasmin. You may be entitled to financial compensation through a Yasmin lawsuit if you or someone you love has taken Yasmin and suffered from a:

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Pulmonary Embolism
  • Gallbladder Disease/Gallbladder Removal
  • Sudden Death

If you or someone you love  has suffered any of these side effects from taking the oral contraceptive Yasmin, please contact an experienced Yasmin lawyer toll-free at 1-800-732-3070  or fill out the short contact form online. Yaz Birth Control Side Effects

March 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

There have been very serious Yaz side effects reported in many women around the United States that have been using Yaz birth control. These include higher risks of blood clots such as Pulmonary Emboli and DVTs and also  Gallbladder problems.

Health Research advocate group, Public Citizen, has advocated that the FDA ban third generation contraceptives containing ethinyl estradiol due to the lack of studies which examine its serious side effects. The fourth generation contraceptives known as Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella, use a combination of ethinyl estradiol and  the synthetic hormone drospirenone. The Public Citizen has stated that there would be no medical reason for someone to use a fourth generation oral contraceptive rather than older version, because there is no evidence for greater improvement of contraceptive outcomes.

Women without any history of blood clots or gallbladder issues have experienced these things as side effects of Yaz. The blood clots most often develop in the legs where they are referred to as a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).  However, blood clots could also develop in different areas of the body  including the eyes, pelvis, arm, head, and lungs. Typical symptoms of severe blood clots are, a sudden severe headache, crushing or very sharp chest pains ,unusual pains or swelling in the arms or legs, pains in the backd of thelower legs, or blurry or doubled vision.

These side effects of Yaz could increase based upon many risk and health factors. Women who are over 35, who smoke,  who are overweight, who are diabetic, or who have high levels of  the blood fats or cholesterol are at an increased risk for Yaz side effects.

Yaz Lawsuits

There are many women who have not had any history of clots or gallbladder problems who have now experienced these since taking Yaz. You may be entitled to financial compensation through a Yaz lawsuit if you or someone you love has taken Yaz and suffered from a:

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Pulmonary Embolism
  • Gallbladder Disease/Gallbladder Removal
  • Sudden Death

If you or someone you love  has suffered any of these side effects from taking the oral contraceptive Yaz, please contact an experienced Yaz lawyer toll-free at 1-800-732-3070  or fill out the short contact form online. Yasmin and Yaz Causing Wandering Blood Clots

March 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

There are many women that are suffering from clots and many other problems that have looked into their legal rights for the Yasmin lawsuits. Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella DVT is distinguished by the clots that would form in the deep veins, this would normally by in your legs. These oral contraceptives combine the synthetic hormone drospirenon and estrogen. In the recent studies they have shown that this combination would introduce the sharp increase in risks of the abnormal clots. When the clots would form in the deep veins, they could cause a pulmonary embolism, heart attack or even a stroke. Please contact us regarding further information on the Yaz class action lawsuit multi district litigations.

As long as a blood clot that had been caused by the Yasmin or Yaz remains in the original spot, they would be benign. You could experience some warmth, discomfort or even swelling in these areas due to reduced circulation, but these clots would not present any immediate dangers. However, they could become detached and then travel through your bloodstream up to your heart. This would be the most serious of the side effects of the Yaz and Yasmin could trigger.

Where Yasmin/Yaz DVT Would Occur

Yasmin and Yaz DVT normally occurs in deep vein of your legs. This would be right below the knees, clots could form in the anterior tibial, peroneal, or the posterior tibial arteries. In the thighs, the blood clots could form in the common femoral, deep, and the superficial arteries. They could also form in the external iliac, common iliac and the popliteal arteries.

Out of all of these deep veins, the common spots that the Yaz and Yasmin DVT would be in would be the lower thighs along with the mid-calves.

Why DVT Clots Break Free

Each deep vein in the leg is buried in side of muscles, these muscles contract whenever the leg would move. These contractions are very critical for your body to send oxygen from your lower half to your lungs and heart. Unfortunately, they could also set free a clot that could have formed in these deep veins.
Once your clots have broken free from the respective sites, it would flow with the bloodstream that would be carried towards the inferior vena cava. This would be the main pathway to the heart. With the emboli flowing through the vena cava, they could pose a great risk of being able to reach and then clog the major arteries.

Blood Clots in Your Heart, Brain and Lungs

Clots that had passed through the vena cava could approach the arteries that would supply the blood to the heart, brain and lungs. For example, the pulmonary arteries would deliver the deoxygenated blood up to the lungs, the coronary arteries would bring this blood to the heart, and then the carotid arteries would be responsible for supplying the blood to the brain.

Yaz blood clots and Yasmin clots that had traveled to the arteries could form the blockage in these. If the embolus would block one of the pulmonary arteries, you would experience a pulmonary embolism. The blockage in this coronary artery would result in you having a heart attack. If the blood clot reaches the carotid artery, you would suffer from a stroke.

These are 3 potentially life threatening event. And they could possible the side effects from taking Yaz and Yasmin birth control.

Should A Yaz/Yasmin Lawsuit Be Filled?

Many healthy women that had never had the history of the abnormal clots have now experienced this clotting after they had used Yasmin and Yaz oral contraceptives. Taking these pills could create DVT, which could trigger very dangerous side effects.

If someone you would know or yourself has suffered the abnormal clots, heart attack, DVT,stroke or a pulmonary embolism after using these types of oral contraceptives, please contact the Yaz class action attorney. You could have the rights of filling the lawsuit and then receiving compensation that you would deserve.

Yaz Birth Control Blood Clots

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Blood clots can occur for a number of different reasons and can come with serious health concerns. One of the leading causes of blood clots is due to the oral contraceptive Yasmin. Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella birth control contains a synthetic hormone called drospirenone which can cause the blood to thicken and clots to form.

Do Not Use Yaz If You Smoke

Blood clots can form anywhere in the body. They normally form in a blood vessel such as a vein or artery and are common in legs, arms and the pelvis area. In some instances blood clots may only cause mild swelling and no other symptoms. However, the problem with blood clots is that they can continue to grow as well as move in your body. Even a harmless blood clot in your leg can have fatal consequences if it travels to your heart, brain or lung.

Yaz Birth Control Internal Blood Clots

  • The leg – blood clots that form in the leg are often referred to as deep vein thrombosis
  • The uterus – if you are experiencing heavier menstrual periods with an increase in blood clots, this is often caused by Yaz
  • The heart – this can block the flow of oxygen to your heart causing heart attacks and heart failure
  • The lung – if a blood clot forms or lodges in your lung, the result is pulmonary embolism, a life threatening condition
  • The brain – blood clots in the brain will result in a stroke

Many women will not even realize they have a blood clot until it’s too late. Other blood clots will go undetected for years and never cause any concerns. However, if you are currently taking Yaz birth control, it is important to be on the lookout for the following Yaz blood clot symptoms:

  • Any swelling , pain or redness- this is caused by a loss of circulation caused by the clot
  • A sudden change in your vision, including blurred or double vision – this is often caused by a blood clot in the eye
  • A sudden weakness or numbness in your arm, leg, or face – this could indicate that a blood clot is affecting your brain’s ability to function and could result in a stroke
  • Pain in your teeth, jaw, shoulder or back
  • Difficulty speaking or understanding speech – this could suggest a stroke
  • Dizziness or severe headache
  • Pain, pressure or fullness in your chest – this could indicate heart failure
  • Problems breathing

Although all women who take Yaz are at an increased risk for blood clots, women who also fall into the following categories should be even more aware and speak to a doctor before using Yaz:

  • Women over the age of 35 years
  • Women who smoke more than 15 cigarettes per day

Yaz Birth Control: Pulmonary Embolism

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Pulmonary embolism is a serious health condition in which an artery in the lung is blocked so that blood cannot get through to the lung. When this occurs, the body’s pulmonary system is blocked and thus you are unable to breathe. Pulmonary embolism requires immediate medical assistance. However, in many cases, the blockage is simply too substantial and PE will lead to death. Yaz birth control has been known to increase the risk of pulmonary embolism which is something that all women taking Yasmin birth control must be made aware of.

The main reason for PE is due to a blood clot in the lungs. In many instances, a blood clot will form directly in the lung, blocking the blood flow. However, in other instances, a blood clot may form anywhere in your body – your leg, your pelvis, your arm- and travel into the lung. Either way, the result can be fatal.

Yaz Pulmonary Embolism Risk Is Based on the Blood Clot Risk

The reason why women who take Yaz birth control should be concerned about PE is because Yasmin is known to increase the risk of blood clots.

Yaz contains drospirenone, or DRSP, a fourth generation hormone that causes the blood to thicken and thus blood clots to form. DRSP has been known to cause blood clots all over the body. In fact, Yaz birth control is not only linked to blood clot formations in the lungs (causing PE), but also in the heart (causing heart attacks), in the legs (causing deep vein thrombosis), in the uterus (causing excessive menstrual clotting) and in the brain (causing stroke).

Although any woman, no matter what age or how healthy, who currently is taking Yaz birth control is at a greater risk for PE, those who also fall into the following categories are at an increased risk:

  • women who smoke
  • women who are over the age of 35
  • women who have a family or personal history of pulmonary embolism or blood clots

It is important to be on the lookout for some of the warning signs of PE. Although pulmonary embolism can come on suddenly, there are a few symptoms to watch out for. Keep in mind, however, that in most instances of PE, there are no symptoms. If you do experience any of the following, make sure you contact emergency services right away:

Symptoms of a Pulmonary Embolism

  • coughing up blood
  • chest pain, dull, achy, stabbing or sharp
  • pain in the neck, jaw, shoulder or arm,
  • pain in the chest that increases when coughing or breathing
  • a rapid pulse or weak pulse
  • shortness of breath
  • anxiety
  • clammy or bluish skin
  • excessive sweating and/or fever
  • leg swelling
  • wheezing
  • dizziness or fainting

Recovering for Yaz Pulmonary Embolism

The truth about Yaz PE is that, unfortunately, it is a leading cause of death. In fact, 33% of all individuals who have an untreated PE attack will not survive. Furthermore, many PE sufferers who are treated with proper medical care will still not survive the damage. If you or someone you love has been affected by Yaz-related pulmonary embolism, then you most likely understand the devastating effects this serious problem can cause. Yaz Birth Control Gallstones

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Your gallbladder is an important organ in the digestive system responsible for storing and secreting bile needed to break down fats. There are a number of reasons why your gallbladder may not be functioning properly and one of these reasons is due to Yasmin birth control. Research has indicated that Yaz gallbladder problems can be heightened when taking this type of birth control.

Yaz Linked To Gallbladder Problems

There are two main reasons why Yasmin birth control has been linked to gallbladder problems:

  • Yasmin birth control can elevate the level of cholesterol that goes into the liver. This can cause the liver to work overtime and increase the risk of gallstones which are formed from fatty deposits.
  • Yasmin birth control can also directly reduce the activity of the gallbladder, most likely due to the estrogen present in Yaz birth control.
There are a number of gallbladder complications caused by Yaz birth control. These include the following:
  • Gallstones – due to elevated levels of cholesterol in your gallbladder, also known as cholelithiasis
  • Inflammation – also known of cholecystitis
  • Obstruction of the gallbladder

Gallstones form because the gallbladder is not able to remove the levels of cholesterol. This fatty deposit will harden, causing stones in your gallbladder. Many women will have gallstones and not even realize it. However, if you experience any of the following symptoms, it could be a sign of gallstones:

Yaz Side Effects Include Gallstones

  • Upper abdomen or back pain
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Pain that lasts longer than 5 hours
  • Fever
  • Jaundice in the skin

There are a number of ways a doctor can diagnose gallbladder problems including x-rays, ultrasounds, HIDA scan, CT scan, blood tests and ERCP. It is important to speak to a doctor about any symptoms you are experiencing, especially if you are currently taking Yasmin birth control. Although some of these tests can be extremely invasive and expensive, it is important that you do not leave gallbladder problems untreated. If you do, this can lead to an infection which can not only impact your gallbladder but also other areas of the body as well.

An infection, if left untreated, may spread to your liver or kidneys, causing liver damage or kidney failure. It can also affect your bloodstream and travel to vital organs including your heart, your brain and your lungs. Your body is a complex system that connects in a number of different ways. Yaz gallbladder problems can negatively impact all elements of your body’s internal system and lead to severe problems down the road.

If you or someone you love has gallstones or experienced any additional gallbladder problems while taking Yaz birth control, it is important that you not only consult a doctor, but also a Yaz attorney.

Yaz Deep Vein Thrombosis

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Deep vein thrombosis is a swelling in the vein caused by a blood clot. In most instances, deep vein thrombosis, or DVT will start as a painful red spot on the leg. Many people will assume that this annoying little pain is nothing to be concerned about and pass off the minor pain as a leg cramp. However, the truth is that DVT can lead to more severe health conditions including heart attacks, stroke and pulmonary embolism. A blood clot in your thrombus can easily travel to your lung, your brain or your heart and cause life-threatening consequences.

Yaz DVT Risk

There are a number of factors that put people at risk for DVT. Heredity, lifestyle and diet should all be considered. Those who smoke may be at risk for DVT as are those who are overweight or consume a lot of fatty foods. However, it has recently been discovered that women who take Yasmin birth control are also at risk for developing deep vein thrombosis. The reason is because Yaz birth control is linked to an increased risk in blood clot formation.

Yaz birth control is linked to DVT because of the fourth generation hormone drospirenone used in Yasmin. Drospirenone or DRSP is a synthetic hormone known to thicken the blood, thus causing blood clots to form. DRSP also raises the level of potassium in your body which can also lead to blood clot formation, among other things. Many women were not aware that Yasmin birth control comes with these serious and potentially fatal side effects.

Yaz Linked To Serious DVT Side Effects

Many women will not experience any DVT symptoms until it is too late. However, if you are on Yaz birth control, you should always be aware of the following:

  • Any pain or swelling in your legs
  • Any redness or increased warmth in your legs
  • Any odd bumps in your legs

If you do notice something unusual, it is important to consult a doctor about your concerns. Your doctor will be able to diagnose Yaz DVT through an x-ray, ultrasound, blood test or additional tests. If you are diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis, you will most likely need to take blood thinning medication, wear compression stockings or have a filter inserted into your vein to stop blood clots from traveling to vital organs.

If you are currently battling against DVT caused by Yasmin birth control, then it is important to know that you are not alone. Our lawyers can offer you the legal experience you need to ensure the financial compensation you deserve. Many women across America are now forced to take medications to stop DVT from affecting their quality of life even more. Many other women are currently undergoing expensive therapy in order to correct the problems caused by DVT and Yaz blood clots.

Yaz Birth Control Liver Damage

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Your liver plays an important role in the bodies’ digestive system. It is responsible for manufacturing proteins and blood clotting factors, synthesizing, storing and processing fats, fatty acids and carbohydrates, secreting bile that helps in the intestinal digestion of foods and eliminating harmful toxins from the body. Needless to say, if your liver is not up to par, then your entire digestive system will be out of whack.

Most young women will not worry about the condition of their liver. After all, liver problems are usually associated with the elderly or with those who drink alcohol on a daily basis. However, women who take Yasmin birth control are also at risk for liver problems and damage.

Yasmin birth control contains a synthetic hormone called drospirenone (DRSP). This is a fairly new hormone that comes with serious side effects. DRSP is known to thicken the blood in your body, causing unwanted blood clots. Furthermore, DRSP, combined with estrogen, is known to negatively impact the liver as well as other organs such as the pancreas and the kidneys. When the liver is not doing its job, then your entire body will be negatively impacted. Your body is a complicated system of various connections. If you are suffering from liver damage, then your body may not be able to fight off infections and harmful toxins. You may also not be able to break down the various fatty acids digested which can lead to even more health concerns including infection, heart attacks and obesity.

Liver damage is often left untreated until it is too late. Most doctors will not worry about your liver at a regular check-up unless there is a cause for concern. Alcohol and tobacco are two drugs known to cause problems to the liver. However, Yasmin birth control should also be added to this list, especially in women who already have raised liver enzyme levels. It is important to remember that if you have problems with your liver or kidney, do not take Yasmin birth control.

Anyone who is taking Yaz birth control should be on the lookout for the following symptoms of liver damage:

  • pain in the upper right abdomen
  • dark urine
  • jaundiced in the eyes

More and more reports are popping up concerning young women who have suffered from the devastating effects of liver damage. Liver diseases can include acute and chronic liver conditions, hepatitis, fatty liver, scarring and cancer. If you or someone you love is suffering from Yaz-related liver damage, then you know the expensive medical costs involved in diagnosing and treating liver damage. Apart from blood tests, you may also experience serological tests as well as a liver biopsy. The entire process can be time consuming, stressful and expensive.

Yaz Birth Control Pancreatitis

January 4, 2010 by US Drug Recall

Pancreatitis is a health concern for many people of a certain age. However, it has recently been uncovered that women taking Yasmin birth control are also at risk of getting pancreatitis and suffering from the effects this painful condition can cause.

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is the first part of the small intestine and plays an active role in the digestive system. Furthermore, the pancreas is also responsible for regulating the level of glucose in your body. When you have pancreatitis, your pancreas cannot perform its duty which can negatively impact your entire digestive system. Without proper diagnosis and treatment of pancreatitis, you may experience severe bleeding, infections and permanent damage to the tissue in the pancreas.

There are a number of theories surrounding why Yaz birth control causes pancreatitis in women. Many believe that the connection is due to the increased blood levels of triglyceride in Yasmin birth control. Other researchers believe that the estrogen used in Yasmin birth control is toxic to the pancreas in general. There are currently a number of studies that are looking at the Yaz pancreatitis connection to give us more answers. However, until then, women need to be aware that with Yaz birth control comes an increase in the chance of getting pancreatitis.

Essentially there are two different types of pancreatitis, both of which can be harmful to your health. Acute pancreatitis often occurs suddenly and can bring life threatening problems if the condition is ignored. Acute pancreatitis can usually be resolved with certain medical treatment. Chronic pancreatitis, on the other hand, does not heal or improve and can lead to permanent pancreas damage.

Be on the lookout for the following Yaz pancreatitis symptoms:

  • pain in the upper abdomen. Pain can be gradual, sudden, severe, constant or mild
  • swollen abdomen
  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • fever
  • rapid heart beat
  • weight loss
  • oily stools and/or diarrhea
  • pain when eating or drinking

If you are currently experiencing any of these symptoms and are taking Yasmin birth control, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Furthermore, if you have any problems with your kidneys or liver, it is important that you stop taking Yaz birth control. Pancreatitis can lead to kidney failure, gallstones and even a kidney transplant if left untreated.

If you or someone you love has experienced pancreatitis, it is important that you not only seek medical attention, but that you also contact a Yaz attorney about your legal rights. Treatment for pancreatitis can be expensive and stressful and may include ultrasounds, CT scans, kidney dialysis and/or MRCP. You may miss out on work and a regular income and be faced with emotional trauma, severe pain and expensive medical costs. However, you have a legal right to fight back.
