Bard Composix Kugel mesh patches, a medical device used to treat hernias, were recalled in December 2005 due to serious side effects and complications.
Kugel mesh patch side effects include bowel obstructions, perforations, chronic fistulas, and infection. These side effects cause serious damage, may require additional surgeries to repair, and in some cases may cause death.
Bard Composix Kugel mesh patches came on to the market in 2002, and although a number of companies knew of problems with the patches, they were not recalled until 2005. The negligence of these companies caused many people across the United States to be injured by Kugel mesh patches.
